As the big studios fight it out for headlines at the E3 gaming expo, French company Ubisoft also threw their hat in the ring last night. Consistency seems to be the name of the game, with a number of regulars making a return, but also some interesting new IP to start things off.

For Honor

New IP is always welcomed, and in For Honor you can fight as Knights, Samurais or Vikings. The prospect seems intriguing, and the trailer shows some solid in-game footage, where the aim is to take over and hold a specific battlefield area. The designers placed emphasis on what they call the “Art of Battle” system, which they believe provides a greater degree of control over both offense and defence. No word on a release date, but it will come to Xbox One, PS4 and Xbox One.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Superheroes are the name of the game these days, and it seems to be true for the folks over at South Park too. After the Stick of Truth with it fantasy role-playing, the next South Park game turns its glare towards superheroes, as Cartman (The Coon) and company (Toolshed, Human Kite, Mint Berry Crunch) battle darkness, evil and wrongdoing. Our question: Does The Fractured But Whole refer to the darkest part of the Dark Knight?

Tom Clancy’s The Division

Ubisoft calls The Division its most anticipated game to date, slapping on an 8 March 2016 release for its Tom Clancy titled FPS. This post-apocalyptic shooter doesn’t involve zombies, instead a group called The Division is supposed to save what is left of humanity after a virus turns cities into warzones. It’s a next-gen and PC title, with a beta in the works if you sign up for a pre-order.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege

Another Tom Clancy named title made an appearance last night at the Ubisoft event, and from the looks of the trailer it should certainly get old fans of the series ready to dosh out some cash come 13 October. From the looks of the trailer, we believe the true strength of the game should lie in online multiplayer. Oh yes, Angela Bassett (Strange Days, Boesman and Lena) is also receiving a voice role call up as team leader “Six”.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Rounding up the Tom Clancy releases is a hearty welcome back of the Ghost Recon series. Ghost Recon: Wildlands though is slightly different to other sandbox games, since there are no linear missions taking you from destination to destination. Instead you are left to your own devices to explore as you please. “We want you to feel the thrill of exploration,” noted creative director Eric Couzian. There should be enough of that, with the game set in Bolivia and loads of vehicles and landscapes to explore, if the bloody trailer is anything to go by.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

We already know that the next Assassin’s Creed is taking place in Victorian London, but the new gameplay walkthrough of Syndicate starts off looking more like a scene out of Gangs of New York.  There’s talk of fully systemic vehicle doing the round for the first in an AC game, with our hero Jacob also using a couple of intriguing new tools and weapons. While the trailer starts off slow, it’s worthwhile persisting with it, since it includes a well pulled-off chase scene through the streets of London.

And more, and more, and more

While the above are the big announcements from the house of Ubisoft, there were a few more games unveiled, and below the trailers for Just Dance 2016, Trackmania: Turbo, and Anno 2205, a city building sim set in the future (and space), which should give SimCity a run for its money.
