As the rather grotesque saying goes, there are many ways to skin a cat. Well, first you shouldn’t ever do any of them. But now there yet another, using virtual reality.

More particularly, a new demo from Leap Motion shows how biology students can be given a tour of a cat’s anatomy using the technology, with Cat Explorer showing the skeletal systems and, underlying organs.

 The somewhat disturbing part is that the feline under examination keeps looking at you  with imploring eyes as you explore his/her anatomy. However, it’s still a lot less invasive – and icky – than opening up a deceased animal. Hopefully though the use of VR exploration of animals, and no doubt, humans, will aid in future medical procedures to save the lives of their real life counterparts.
