VW excites with GTI Vision concept for Gran Turismo 6
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 17 April 2015 | Categories: newsOur unabashed love of concept cars is well documented by now, as is our joy when seeing a new vehicle being digitally added to Gran Turismo 6's Vision garage. Joining the vast number of concept cars is Volkswagen's new offering, the GTI Vision Supersport, which is sure to get hot hatch enthusiasts' tongues wagging. Inspired by the German manufacturer's love affair with hatchbacks and the GTI series in particular, this new concept looks like a retrofitted Golf 6 GTI that's ready for action.
Along with a large front grille, that almost seems to be smiling when lining up on the starting grid, it features large wheel arches with deep air intakes. Added to which is a suitably imposing rear spoiler, which any street racer would be more than proud of.
Although completely digital, the GTI Vision Supersport features a very real world engine and technology courtesy of VW. Namely a VR6 TSI engine, fitted with a large turbocharger to produce an estimated 400 kW. Furthermore, 665 Nm of torque is added for good measure to give it the necessary pull off the line and VW's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system to keep its 20" rims planted to the road.
According to VW, it can get to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 300 km/h. But don't take our word for it, watch the video below and find out for yourself.
