So long six second video clips, after a good four years of entertainment. Twitter has called an end to Vine, a source of endless loops of joy, sadness and newsworthy snippets, with the mobile app shutting down in the coming months.

Owner Twitter, who acquired Vine in October 2012, has not released any information about why the short video app is set to close, but recently announced that it would be cutting 9% of the Twitter workforce. The microblogging site has also not managed to find a suitable buyer, with Google, Salesforce.com and Disney all saying no to shelling out for Twitter. 

If you have a treasure trove of Vines loaded, don’t stress straight away, since the company noted that people will be able to access and download their Vines, while the website will remain open. “We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way,” Team Vine and Twitter noted in a release.

The company also said that users will be notified before any changes were to be made to the website or app. Noting on what is next, well, it all seems to be a bit up in the air. “We’ll be working closely with creators to make sure your questions are answered and will work hard to do this the right way. We’ll be sharing more details on this blog and our Twitter account, and will notify you through the app when we start to change things,” the company noted.
