In the wake of a recent study that virtual reality’s time to shine is near, one start-up’s ambition to introduce haptic virtual reality gloves has also come a step closer to being realized. Plexus Immersive has announced that developers can now reserve their spot on a waiting list for development kits of its haptic feedback gloves. Judging by a recent video of the gloves in action, these making interacting with a virtual world more lifelike, as you are using your hands rather than a controller to touch, pinch and pick up objects in the virtual reality world.

The gloves are also set to play nice with Steam VR, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality. While the gloves will initially be medium size, apparently small and larger versions are on the cards. Developer kits are slated to be made available from next month, with software development kits (SDKs) for Unreal and Unity gaming tools.

As the recent study noted, we are still a long way off from this kind of VR becoming mainstream, mainly because of the cost involved. However, developments like these certainly lend credence to the hope that virtual reality, and its uses, are being given a good amount of attention from all fronts, from hardware manufacturers, game developers and peripheral developers as well.
