Volvo's first all-electric vehicle will be a hatchback slated for 2019
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 30 January 2018 | Categories: newsSeveral carmakers pledged their desire to go electric last year, but perhaps none more so than Volvo. The Swedish carmaker said that it planned to electrify all their models, eventually making them full electric vehicles.
The first of these new all-electric vehicles will be arriving sometime in 2019, according to Autocar, with the hatchback 40.2 Concept that debuted in May last year serving as the reference.
Added to this the vehicle will feature Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture, which takes the company's current design methodology and places it within the confines of a smaller platform. The result is that the upcoming all-electric hatchback should be as solid and safe as one of Volvo's larger cars.
While the full details for the car are unknown, the company is said to be aiming for a driving range of 499 kilometres from a single fully charged battery. This is quite a bit more than the range of the 40.2 Concept at 349 kilometres.
Along with the all-electric hatchback, Volvo also plans to debut a fully electrified version of the XC40 next year as well.
