Year of the Mammoth will bring three expansions to Hearthstone in 2017
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 17 February 2017 | Categories: newsBlizzard has a number of changes in store for its Warcraft-themed digital card game Hearthstone this year, with three expansions expected for the franchise over 2017, which they have dubbed the Year of the Mammoth. In case you were wondering, last year they dubbed the Year of the Kraken.
This latest announcement continues where Blizzard started last year, as the company decided to split gaming formats into Standard (original cards and expansions) and Wild (every card printed). The plan seemed to work, as Standard allowed newcomers to Hearthstone to immediately jump into the action and Wild meant the long time fans could continue to play uninhibited.
When it comes to the Year of the Mammoth, Blizzard has three expansions on the way, bringing with them additions to the card library, as well as retiring some others. The first expansion, date of release still unknown, will remove a large number of cards from the Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament and League of Explorers packs.
As far as the second and third expansions are concerned, Blizzard has remained tight-lipped on what they will entail. Nevertheless, the Year of the Mammoth should be a good one for Hearthstone fans.
