Google has a few plans in mind for some of its media platforms, with YouTube Red in particular set to receive an overhaul. During the New Music Seminar in New York, YouTube's head of Music Lyor Cohen confirmed that the company will be merging its paid subscription service with Google Play Music to create one unique streaming platform. 

Precisely what guise it will take, or indeed how much users will have to pay for the forthcoming platform, remains to be seen. For now, all that's known is that YouTube has several platforms in its lineup, each with their varying degrees of success. 

"Music is very important to Google and we’re evaluating how to bring together our music offerings to deliver the best possible product for our users, music partners and artists. Nothing will change for users today and we’ll provide plenty of notice before any changes are made," noted Google in an official statement to The Verge. 

With the original YouTube still as popular as ever, perhaps integrating content from its other platforms into one seamless experience might be the best move. That said, seeing one single app that merges both YouTube Red and Google Play is probably not on the cards.
