Over the past year, YouTube has taken several new steps when it comes to community guidelines, aiming to be more transparent with its creators and advertisers alike. This has prompted the company to reveal the figures from its first-ever Community Guidelines Report. In it, YouTube mentions that 8.3 millions were removed from the platform during October to December last year.

Added to that, YouTube says 6.7 million of the 8.3 million were initially flagged while under review by its machine learning algorithm, further noting that the videos were not viewed by any users.

Much of the company's actions were prompted by the fact that blatantly inappropriate content was being uploaded to the Kids version of the platform, which was masquerading as child-friendly.

With YouTube stating late last year that it will be employing 10 000 people to assist in reviewing and flagging content on its site, the company will also be issuing quarterly reports in order to measure the progress it's making in the battle against inappropriate kids content.

Whether it can enforce such methods for the regular version of the platform remains to be seen.
