If you’re feeling pretty smug about your 16GB USB flash drive, think again.

Kingston has announced the availability of a 256GB USB flash drive, the DataTraveler 300 (DT 300), but it’ll cost you R6655 (excl. VAT). That’s about R30/GB incl. VAT.

The device is supposedly ideal for netbook users looking to expand the limited capacity of their machines. The transfer rate of up to 20MB/sec is decent for a flash drive but it isn’t terribly impressive for a conventional hard drive; which let’s face it’s basically a substitute for in terms of use with a netbook.

The other problem is that the thing costs about as much a netbook, which seems a little excessive really.

The drive is available from Axiz on 11 237 7007 or visit www.axiz.co.za.
