Hot on the heals of Intel’s announcement of a number of new Sandy Bridge second generation Core processors for notebooks (and PCs), AMD is looking to stake its claim on the fastest mobile GPU title.

The company has introduced its next generation mobile graphics technology, the AMD Radeon HD 6000M series, which will provide users on the go with “AMD’s highest performing notebook graphics”.

This new range of mobile GPUs employs the company’s second-generation DirectX 11-capable mobile graphics architecture, in order to provide users with the capability to play games on up to six displays using AMD Eyefinity technology.

AMD’s Radeon HD 6000M series also boasts support for the company’s HD3D technology, allowing users to watch movies and play games in stereoscopic 3D (on a 3D display), as well as AMD EyeSpeed technology for improved video and application performance.

“One year ago AMD claimed the title of undisputed technology leader in mobile graphics performance and since then we continue to pave the way for mobile computing innovation,” said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, GPU Division, AMD.

“With the introduction of the AMD Radeon HD 6000M series, AMD’s best just got better by cementing its leadership in notebook graphics. Through our feature-rich line of top-to-bottom next-generation notebook graphics, including AMD’s fastest performing notebook graphics processor, we’re enabling a superior visual computing experience in virtually every segment.”

AMD will be showcasing notebooks featuring this new graphics technology later this week at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), to be held in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
