AVG launches Internet Security 2012
By Ryan Noik 2 September 2011 | Categories: newsAVG today announced the launch of its latest internet security software, AVG Internet Security 2012, which brings with it a number of new features. These include new protection technologies, computer performance enhancements and content download acceleration. The company added that it was the lightest, fastest and smallest AVG product to date.
In addition to AVG’s multi-layered protection, utilising signature-based antivirus, heuristics and behavior-based threats detection, AVG 2012 comes with new AVG Accelerator and AVG Advisor features as well as additional protection technologies. AVG Accelerator optimises file and video downloads on selected sites to minimise waiting time, while AVG Advisor constantly monitors the computer and proactively advises the user with available remedies and optimisation options for various computer problems that may arise.
Yuval Ben-Itzhak, the chief technology officer of AVG Technologies, explained that the company has enhanced AVG Internet Security 2012 as a result of listening to its users who asked for ”peace of mind, better security against threats and an optimised computing performance.” He added that key achievements of AVG 2012, compared to the previous AVG Internet Security 2011, included a 50% smaller download size and faster install time, 45% reduction in disk space on average, 20% less processes and memory usage and 10% faster load time. The software further includes an integrated security firewall and AVG LinkScanner, which checks the safety of a URL, internet links and web page for threats.
JR Smith, the chief executive officer of AVG Technologies, pointed out that computers and devices have become an extension of every individual at work and at play. “In today’s world, we’re not just securing machines. We’re securing people’s digital life, or as we like to say: Providing Peace of Mind to the Connected World,” he asserted. Internet Security 2012 is now available for download at www.avg.com for the online price of $43 (R300).
