The company has introduced a 10.1" Android-powered (Acer doesn’t specify which version) tablet that boasts a large capacitive touch-screen (1280 x 800 pixels), Wi-Fi as well as 3G connectivity. It boasts elegant aluminum casing with a high gloss finish and is around 13.3 mm thick. This device sports full HD (1080p) capability as well as a built-in HDMI port over which users will be able to share HD content via an HDTV. The company also stated that users will be able to run and play premium HD arcade games as well as complex online 3D games, thanks to the tablet’s 10 point multi-touch capability and gyro meter control.

 

Acer’s other Android device is a 7" Android tablet which features the same 1280 x 800 display resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for its touch-screen. Users will be able to video chat or record a video with its front-facing HD camera and it also sports HDMI support. This 7" tablet will be powered by a dual core processor, will feature Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support, Dolby Mobile Technology for the best sound experience, as well as Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.

 

 

The company’s third and final tablet’s display also measures in at 10.1" and has Windows (presumably Windows 7) doing the operating. This thin (only 15 mm) and light (sub 1 kg) device will sport a high resolution touch-screen as well as a docking device that includes a full-size keyboard and Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Processing will be handled via the next-generation AMD platform and two 1.3 megapixel cameras, one rear and one front-facing, allows users to take photos, record video, chat and do video conferencing.

 

With about 19 million tablets sold globally during 2010, an expected sales figure of 54.8 million tablets for 2011 and 208 million units forecasted for 2014, Acer is hoping these devices will afford it a nice big slice of that tablet PC sales pie.

 

No word yet on whether it will make an appearance in SA, but the two Android devices will be available in April 2011, whilst the Windows-running tablet will be available in February 2011.
