Walter Deppeler, vice president of Acer for the EMEA region, today revealed that the company’s future is looking bright within South Africa but also globally with regards to product sales and future developments. 

 
Deppeler confirmed that the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) is the largest for Acer in terms of sales, contributing 50% of the company’s $17.9 billion revenue in 2009, but added that the Asia region is expected to overtake this in coming years. 
 
To put the company’s rapid growth into perspective, Acer’s total revenue in 2002 was $3.1 billion; in 2010 Deppeler revealed that the company expects to ear over $20 billion. 
 
Acer currently occupies the second position with regards to global market share in the desktop PC market, with 14.1%. In the notebook market however, Acer comfortably occupies the number one position with 19.4% of global marketshare.
 
Going forward Deppeler forecasts that technology within notebooks and PC’s will become less of a concern, with consumers favouring small form factors and attractive design. 
 
Locally speaking the VP confirmed that although South Africa is still a more immature market than those in Europe with regards to which products prove the most popular, Acer expects to see strong growth within the notebook market in the coming year. 
 
In addition to this Deppeler also confirmed that Acer’s LumiRead eReader will be launched locally in October. Pricing and availability details are not yet available.
