Netbooks ushered in a counterintuitive revolution (more mobility, less power) in 2008 that has cemented their place in the hardware game.

You're only as mobile as you battery pack allows for however, and with their small form factor netbooks hardly have the room for performance battery packs. Samsung's recently announced N140 netbook will apparently address the issue. Launched at IFA 2009 in Germany, the N140's single six cell battery can deliver up to 11 hours of battery power according to Samsung. This kind of battery performance could seriously extend the power leash on most netbook users.

The electronics giant also announced the release of an 11.6" HD netbook, the N510. With a 16:9 non-gloss LED display the N510 looks like an ideal media netbook, and while it doesn't support full-HD there is an HDMI port available with graphics powered by an NVidia GeForce 9400M.

No word on price or availability yet.

Update: The N140 will retail at R 3999 incl. VAT and will be available in South Africa from 15 September, while the N510 will retail at R4999 incl. VAT and will be available from 1 November.
