SE announced the launch of Extra Man, an interactive 2010 FIFA World Cup focused website, yesterday. As an official handset sponsor of the 2010 World Cup, SE aims to create the first social networking and mobile media sharing World Cup.

Football fans will be able to access World Cup relevant content and even contribute their own to www.sonyericsson.com/extraman. The site will be online from now until June 2010 and fans can access content through their handsets.

"Our aim is to provide all fans of the 2010 FIFA World Cup a rich and diverse experience including giving away tickets to 2010 FIFA World Cup matches.  All of our marketing investment will be used to enhance and improve the fan experience as we believe this is an absolute priority.  We will be working closely with our colleagues at Sony to make this happen and help fans realise their dreams," said Sonja Shear, Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson South Africa.

The site even features what SE is calling "the world's first football focused search engine," WorldCupedia. While a novel idea the engine does seem to be experiencing a few teething problem with all of our searches returning 404 errors.
