Playing games and watching your movies in stereoscopic 3D isn’t only limited to such high tech gadgetry as 3D gaming notebooks and the upcoming Nintendo 3DS, as the first auto-stereoscopic 3D cellphone has been launched in India.

According to Engadget, telecommunications company Spice Mobility has just announced the M-67 3D phone in India. It boasts a 2.36" (240 x 320 pixels) display sporting a dedicated 3D shortcut key which allows users to switch between 2D and 3D.

Users can employ this key to switch the viewing modes for the phone’s user interface (UI), to view images, as well as to view video in 3D. As is the case with the Nintendo 3DS, 3D glasses isn’t required to be able to enjoy the 3D imagery.

The compact (50.7 x 115 x 12.6 mm) and lightweight (70 g) M-67 3D is however, only fitted with a standard two megapixel 2D camera and not a 3D camera, meaning that the images it takes will not be displayed in 3D when it is connected with a 3DTV for instance. This dual-SIM mobile also features FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack, but only comes with half a megabyte of internal memory, which users can expand it to 16 GB using a microSD memory card.

Priced at 4 299 rupees (around R670), this handset will be sold via 50 000 retail outlets.
