OfficeSuite Viewer 5

Admittedly, there are many office applications on the Android market, so if you want full editing capability, you can fork out for apps like Documents to Go.

However, if all you need to do is open and view a full range of office docs on your Android device, OfficeSuite Viewer 5 is an excellent option.

OfficeSuite Viewer 5 supports a wide range of file formats, including DOC, DOCX, RTF, TXT, LOG, XLS, XLSX, CSV, PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX, EML, PDF and ZIP. Additionally, you can add cloud accounts, such as Dropbox and Google Docs, to open files directly from the cloud.

TeamViewer Remote

TeamViewer for Remote Control is an interesting and effective remote app which enables you to use your Android device to connect to and control a PC remotely.

However, you do need to install the free TeamViewer software on the PC you wish to access remotely as well.

While setting up both the app, the PC program and your TeamViewer account can take a little while, the program (free for personal/non-commercial use) proved to be an effective way of transferring files from our computer to our mobile device, editing documents and accessing open windows on our android device when away from our desk.

Business Calendar

The third of our business orientated apps, Business Calendar is a free app which integrates multiple calendars from several sources, including one’s Gmail and other web based accounts, a local calendar generated on the device as well as events from one’s Facebook account.

These can then be viewed separately in either month, week or daily views, and an agenda view is also available, where you can specify whether two or five lines of details show under an appointment. The free version is ad supported, but these are unobtrusive and didn’t get in our way much at all.

Want to quickly find something located on your phone? Long pressing the menu button opens up Google’s search bar with added local search functionality. Use this to quickly locate apps and contacts on your device, or to easily do a web search.
