Apple has today unveiled a completely redesigned Mac Mini which, like a number of other Mac products including the Mac Book Pro series, now features a unibody aluminium exterior.

 
The updated model will now feature up to twice the graphical performance of its predecessor as well as a new HDMI port and SD card slot. The unibody enclosure has also allowed for an integrated power supply which, according to Apple, has reduced the overall volume of the system by 20%.
 
It will also incorporate 802.11n wireless support, a Mini DisplayPort jack, Apple’s Snow Leopard OS and will measure in at only 35mm tall and 195mm wide.
 
With regards to graphics the Mac Mini now features the NVIDIA GeForce 320M, which is the fastest integrated graphics processor currently on the market. It will also ship standard with a 2.4GHz Intel Dual Core 2 processor, a 320 GB hard drive and 2 GB of RAM and will retail at $699 (roughly R5 000).
 
The premium model will feature dual 500 GB hard drives, with the sacrifice of its DVD burner, Snow Leopard Server, 4GB of RAM and a 2.66GHz Intel processor for $999 (roughly R8000).
 
“The sleek, aluminum Mac mini packs great features, versatility and value into an elegant, amazingly compact design,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With twice the graphics performance, HDMI support and industry-leading energy efficiency, customers are going to love the new Mac mini.”
 
Local pricing and availability details are not yet available.
