Skyrim players on the PS3 finally have cause to celebrate, as Bethesda’s latest patch has been released for the console and addresses the game breaking bugs which have plagued that version since the game’s launch late last year.

 

Although there have been several updates since the game’s release, the most crippling bug has caused the game to slow down dramatically, if not freeze, as PS3 players progressed further into the game and their file saves became larger.  

 

While other bugs – such as the now famous dragon flying backward issue – were the cause of some mirth, the same cannot be said of the frame rate slowdown which has apparently persisted for many.

 

 

The new patch though, which updates the game to version 1.5 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, apparently finally addresses the problem, along with adding some extra features. These include new cinematic kill cameras for projectile weapons and spells, new kill moves and animations for melee weapons and improved visual transition when going underwater.

 

On its blog, the company commented: “We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support of the game. The average Skyrim play time (across all three platforms) is 85 hours, and 30% of you have played more than 100 hours of the game.”

 

The company also teased that in the coming weeks and months, it would have “some exciting news to share” on the game.

 

 

Despite revelations that Bethesda knew about the problem when shipping the PS3 version of the game, this did not stop the massive role playing game from garnering legions of players and widespread acclaim, as well as the 2011 Game of the Year award at both the 2012 Game Developers Choice Awards and the Spike Video Game Awards.
