BlackBerry holding company RIM (Research In Motion) has rebranded its BlackBerry App World application download front as BlackBerry World. The Canadian firm stated that BlackBerry users will start to see the new name on their BlackBerry PlayBook (review) tablets, followed by BlackBerry smartphones within the coming weeks.

According to a post on the company’s official blog, the name change reflects a shift in the type of content customers will be able to buy from the store, as it transitions to BlackBerry 10 and beyond. BlackBerry World will not only be the place BlackBerry users obtain their apps from, but also videos and music as well. “BlackBerry World is going to be the one-stop shop for all of your mobile entertainment needs,” the post read.

RIM is expected to showcase its new BlackBerry 10 platform along with the first couple of devices powered by the software, at the end of this month.

In related news, RIM and Nokia recently announced that they have entered into a new patent license agreement that culminates in the settlement of all existing patent litigation between the companies, as well as the withdrawal of pending actions in the US, UK and Canada related to a recent arbitration tribunal decision.
