BlackBerry holding company Research in Motion (RIM) has announced that the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is now also available in white in South Africa.

The classic black matte finish of the original Torch 9800 will take on a new fresh look with the white version’s stylish ivory matt finish.

RIM’s BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the first BlackBerry smartphone to combine a touch-enabled display (sporting pinch-to-zoom technology) with an easy-to-use QWERTY keypad. This device also boasts a 5 MP camera with LED flash, built in GPS and Wi-Fi.

It was also the first of the Canadian manufacturer’s smartphones to employ RIM’s new BlackBerry 6 operating software (OS). The latest device from RIM’s stable, the BlackBerry Bold 9780, is the second smartphone (at least locally) to be operating on BlackBerry 6.

BlackBerry 6 OS offers a redesigned user interface (UI), universal search, as well as expanded messaging capabilities such as integrated social feeds from a number of networks including Twitter, Facebook and BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 in pure white is available from Vodacom now and will also be available from MTN stores soon.
