BlackBerry Torch now available in SA
By Tom Manners 7 October 2010 | Categories: newsVodacom officially launched the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone in South Africa today.
The Torch is somewhat of a departure from BlackBerry’s stable of handsets in terms of design. It features a capacitive touch screen interface which slides up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, giving users the ability to choose how they wish to interact with the device.
It is also the first BlackBerry handset to ship with Research in Motion’s (RIM) updated BlackBerry 6 mobile operating system.
In addition to this it also incorporates 3G connectivity (UMTS/HSDPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS support, 8 GB of on board storage with hot swapable MicroSD capacity for up to 32 GB and a 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus, image stabilisation, zoom and scene modes
BlackBerry 6 features a redesigned interface and a new WebKit-based browser that renders HTML web pages (as well as HTML email) more quickly. The browser includes tabs for accessing multiple sites simultaneously, pinch to zoom and an auto-wrap text zoom feature that can wrap text in a column while maintaining the placement of a page's key elements.
The device is free on the BlackBerry Talk 100 package which includes 100 free minutes per month and the BlackBerry Internet bundle with internet browsing, email and instant messaging. The price for this is R349/month over 24 months.
