Local mobile operator Cell C has announced its latest data bundle promotional offer called GigaNite, which has been launched in response to customer demand.

This promotion allows early birds web surfers, as well as night owls, to obtain one of two GigaNite bundles that will provide them with cheaper data rates between 00:00 and 06:00.

As of 10 October, new and existing postpaid (contract) customers will be able to bolt on a 10 GB GigaNite bundle for R149 per month or 20 GB GigaNite bundle for R249 per month onto any Cell C SmartData postpaid contract, depending on their overnight data needs.

This 10 GB or 20 GB GigaNite bundle will be loaded in addition to the “anytime” bundle that comes as part of the customer’s selected SmartData contract. Between midnight and 06:00 clients data usage will be deducted from the GigaNite bundles first, after which any other loaded bundle will be used. Out of bundle rates will be charged at 15 c per MB.

The GigaNite data bundle will automatically be loaded on the 1st of every month and will be valid until the end of that calendar month. These GigaNite offerings can be activated at any Cell C store or Customer Care Centre as well as other participating service providers from 10 October.

“Since we have significant capacity available on our network at night, we decided to pass on this benefit to customers and offer data at extremely competitive rates during this time period. Our GigaNite bundles work out to be less than 2c per MB,” explained Alan Knott-Craig, Cell’s C CEO.

“Customers have been asking for larger data bundles that they can use for overnight downloads and surfing, and Cell C is pleased to be able to meet their requests,” Knott-Craig concluded.

In related news, Discovery Vitality and Cell C recently announced the launch of VitalityMobile, a partnership that will give Vitality members access to free calls when calling other VitalityMobile members. For a fee of R29 per month, VitalityMobile customers that have signed up for a Cell C Straight Up 100, 200, 400 or 800 contract will be able to make free calls to other VitalityMobile customers.
