The Chevrolet Spark makes for a popular purchasing decision for local buyers interested in the small car value segment of the South African market. General Motors South Africa (GMSA) is now looking to boost this car’s market share by adding a few new models to the Spark range.

Chevrolet’s Spark range originally consisted of just the ‘L’ and ‘LS’ models, before GMSA added the entry-level Spark Campus model late last year. Now, the company has also introduced a top-of-the-range ‘LT’ version along with a new urban delivery solution in the Spark Pronto, bringing the Spark line-up count to five.

Range-topping Spark LT

Body styling on the Spark LT is enhanced with the optional Sports Style Decal kit available in a choice of either white, silver, or black. This kit consists of components for the hood, roof panel, liftgate and the rear roof spoiler.

In terms of features the Spark LT offers seat side airbags, colour coded bumpers and door panels, 15" inch alloy rims; front and rear power windows, a six speaker sound system, rear park assist, ABS brakes with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and power steering (both of these are available on all Spark models), auto locking doors, and key activated central locking.

Fuel efficient van joins the Spark range

GMSA is punting the Spark Pronto as the ideal light delivery vehicle for SMEs that need to deliver smaller lighter weight parcels to multiple destinations within an urban environment. The Pronto features power steering, dual-front airbags, ABS brakes with EBD, and a 275 kg payload with 876 litres of parcel loading area. This space has been made possible with the removal of the rear seats, with protection and security bars fitted across the rear windows as well as behind the two front seats.

All Spark models are powered by the same 1206 cc four cylinder engine that delivers 60 kW of power at 6400 RPM and peak torque of 108 Nm at 4800 RPM. GMSA claims exceptional economy with average combined cycle fuel usage just 5.4 litres per 100 km. In terms of performance, the Spark models reach 100 km/h in 13.3 seconds and can go on to hit a terminal velocity of 164 km/h.
