Sid Meier’s Civilizations series is one of the oldest and well known gaming franchises in existence. Since its humble beginnings in 1991 the series has grown tremendously over the years.

And now the team at Firaxis games, the creators behind the latest installment, Civilizations V, has announced that a demo will be available before the game is released at the end of September.

According to the Civilizations V website “The demo will be released in September, before the full game is released. More details about what will be available in the demo, as well as the exact release date are coming soon, so stay tuned.”

The full game will be released in the US on the 21st of September, with the rest of the world slated for a 24 September release date.

The demo will undoubtedly appeal to lots of Civilizations fans eagerly awaiting the release of the new strategy and management title.

And it seems there are lots of fans out there, evidenced by the fact that the state of Maryland in the United States has declared that 21 September 2010 be the official ‘Civilization V Day’.
