Fans of horror games such as Jericho and Alone in the Dark will be happy to know that Guillermo del Toro, famed director of Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth, is in the process of making a video game.

As reported in June del Toro talked about moving into the gaming sector and has been busy working on this project for six months. Now more details about the game have emerged at this weekends Spike TV VGA awards.

The game will be called “inSane” and is to be developed by Volition Inc, who is responsible for games such as Saints Row and Red Faction.

Even though nothing concrete has been said about the game the internet is filled with rumours about this “inSane” game. CVG reports that the game is to be a lot like Mass Effect with focus on “inter-dimensional travel, with the player tasked with investigating and checking open portals that must be closed.” According to joystiq the title is set to be a trilogy and should become a gaming franchise.

"With this new series of videogames, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality," del Toro said about the game at the VGAs.

Guillermo del Toro staked his claim to fame in movies such as the psychological thriller Pan’s Labyrinth, the blockbuster action Hellboy and the spine chilling horror, El Orfanato (The Orphanage). He was until June of this year also responsible for directing The Hobbit but left the project.

According to IGN Guillermo del Toro said that he is a lifetime gamer and not just a Hollywood guy trying to cash in.

A short teaser trailer is available for the game but it shows nothing, except that the game will be a horror/thriller by the looks of it and it looks pretty ominous. The game is set to be released in 2013.
