After coming off the bench to replace FIFA 10, the latest iteration of EA Sport’s über-popular football franchise, FIFA 11, has gone on to net record breaking launch sales for the company.
 
According to EA’s internal sales estimates, FIFA 11 sales has shattered sales records for the title with 2.6 million copies sold in Europe and North America by Saturday, October 2nd.
 
EA claims that this makes FIFA 11 the fastest selling sports game ever and have also stated that sales for the game is off to its best start ever in markets across the globe, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US. 
 
“We’re thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend, and we are excited to be able to offer one of our most popular game modes - FIFA 11 Ultimate Team - for free this November,” said Peter Moore, president of EA Sports.
 
“This is a landmark achievement for EA SPORTS – we’ve shattered sales records at retail, critics are praising FIFA 11 as being one of the most authentic and innovative titles ever, and fans are connecting and competing with other gamers around the world and have logged a record number of online connected game sessions.”
 
FIFA 11 launched on 28 September in the States and 1 October in Europe, as well as South Africa and is available for the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable (PSP), iPhone as well as the iPod touch.
