Facebook has introduced a new Subscribe feature, which it explains is aimed at enabling users to choose exactly what they see in their news feeds and hear from those who aren’t necessarily their friends. The company elaborated that the Subscribe feature will “enable you to choose what they see from people in their news feed, hear from people even if they’re not friends, and let others hear from you without their having to be friends.”

The company elaborated that with the Subscribe button, users will be able to fine tune how much they see from each friend, and choose between viewing all updates from their friends, most updates, or important updates only.

Additionally, one would be able to select what types of updates they see, such as photos from one friend, no stories about games from another, and nothing at all from someone else. Users will further be able to take advantage of the feature to subscribe to interesting people that have not friended them, such as journalists, artists and political figures, by clicking on the subscribe button alongside their profile.

Similarly, users will be able to allow other people to subscribe to them as well, by going to the Subscriptions Page and clicking Allow Subscribers. Only posts set as Public will be streamed to one’s subscribers. Once subscribers have been enabled on an account, users will be able to decide who can comment and as well as view who exactly is subscribing to them.
