Facebook making money
By Thomas McKinnon 16 September 2009 | Categories: newsMark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO, announced yesterday that Facebook has achieved the rather impressive milestone of 300 million users world wide.
“It\'s a large number, but the way we think about this is that we\'re just getting started on our goal of connecting everyone,” wrote Zuckerberg in a blog post.
The announcement came with the news that the world’s largest social network was “cash flow positive” in the last quarter.
“We\'re also succeeding at building Facebook in a sustainable way. Earlier this year, we said we expected to be cash flow positive sometime in 2010, and I\'m pleased to share that we achieved this milestone last quarter. This is important to us because it sets Facebook up to be a strong independent service for the long term.”
Considering all Facebook has achieved to date as a "cash flow negative" business it will be interesting to see what it does when it’s actually earning more money than it\'s spending.
