This past Saturday at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, Microsoft revealed its newest Xbox 360 racing contender in the form of Forza Motorsport 4.

 

Since this year’s E3 it's been rumoured that the new racing title will feature support for Microsoft’s motion controlled gaming peripheral, Kinect, and Microsoft finally made it official this week naming Forza 4 as the Kinect-powered "definitive racing game of 2011."

 

Developers Turn 10 Studios has slated the game for a fall (spring for us) 2011 release, showcasing the first trailer for the game this weekend. The game's connection with the Top Gear TV show (the US version) was also flaunted, with the developers saying that combined with Kinect controls it will "create an automotive experience unlike anything before it." There is no word yet on how exactly Top Gear will tie in with the game.  

 

Forza 4 will feature both traditional controller-based gaming as well as Kinect support, and it is unclear at this stage whether the entire game will be playable through Kinect or if motion support will only apply to certain racing modes.

 

According to the Forza 4 press release, "through the power of Kinect, players will be able to step through the TV screen and jump into the driver's seat while the engaging controller-based experience will let you take on the bone-jarring physics, unparalleled levels of customization, and rosters of dream cars and tracks."

 

The game definitely sounds promising thus far and we'll be sure to keep an eye out for some Kinect gameplay videos hopefully surfacing over the next couple of months. The game is coming exclusively to the Xbox 360.
