FNB Online CEO Lee-Anne Van Zyl yesterday announced that the company would be offering a free online security suite to all of its internet banking users.

This comes as part of an effort to minimise phishing and malware attacks on FNB online banking users, a phenomenon which Van Zyl confirmed has begun to achieve a new level of sophistication.

The bank will now be offering Prevx Safe Online to all of its users. In addition to offering protection while using the FNB Online Banking portal, PrevX will also monitors and protects against malware and phishing attempts on a number of partner websites including Gmail and Instant Messaging applications.

The system requires an initial in-browser download of 1 MB through the browser, following which the user will be fully protected. Although PRevX Safe Online will not remove malicious software from a user’s machine, Van Zyl added that users will have the option to upgrade to the full PrevX package at a cost of $26.99.

Van Zyl also added that PrevX is designed for use with other anti-virus programs and is not intended to replace users’ security packages.
