$1 million for gaming perfection
 
It pays to be good at computer and video games, in fact it paid out perfectly for Wade McGilberry, a 24 year old man from Alabama in the US. He scored $1 million (just under R7.8 million) by being the first person to throw a verified perfect game in Major League Baseball 2K10. 2K Sports held a special contest via the Xbox LIVE network and the PlayStation Network, with McGilberry stepping out as the grand winner. “It was actually my wife who convinced me to go for it,” said McGilberry. “I never thought I’d actually win a million dollars playing a video game, it’s all still sinking in for me.”
 
Kratos’ bloodlust remains unquenched
 
The God of War protagonist’s escapades on the PlayStation 2 and PS3 might have come to an end with the release of God of War III, but he’ll make another appearance on the PlayStation Portable (PSP). According to Eric Levine, Sony Computer Entertainment America’s (SCEA) PR manager, Kratos will be back doing what he does best on the PSP as well as the PSP Go in God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The game is being developed by Ready At Dawn Studios in close collaboration with SCEA’s Santa Monica Studio.        
 
PES 2011 is warming up on the sideline
 
Konami has announced their latest title, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2011, which will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable (PSP), Nintendo Wii and Windows-based PCs later in the year. The game will sport a number of improvements over previous PES games, including a greater difficulty level because of the improved control on offer within the game, as well as new camera angles that will show off the game’s gorgeous visuals and over 1 000 new animations. The question of course is how will it compare to EA Sport's latest offering? 
 
Halo: Reach beta enlists over a million Spartans
 
The Halo: Reach beta drew over a million people wanting to test the game that’ll bring the popular game series to an end. According to IGN over one million unique players logged into the beta on Monday (3 May), which was day one of the expected 17 day test. The games developer Bungie said that they worked out many of the major server issues that users had on the first day. 
 
Slow Wii sales hurt Nintendo
 
Nintendo has reported a loss in yearly profits for the first time in four years. According to the BBC the Japanese company’s operating profit dropped by 36% to 356.57 billion yen (under R30 billion) in the year ending on 31 March. Nintendo expects to sell 18 million Wii consoles in the year leading up to March 2011, which is down from 20.53 million this year. Sales of the Nintendo DS are expected to improve though, as the upcoming 3DS will be released within this period.
