Doom 3 BFG edition release info revealed

At the beginning of this month Bethesda and id Software announced that they would be releasing a Doom 3 BFG edition, incorporating Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3 and its addon, Resurrection of Evil - all remastered for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Space Marines who have been looking forward to venturing down badly lit corridors in search of things that go bump in the night, can mark 19 October.   

DOOM 3 BFG edition will be released on 16 October Stateside and 19 October for Europe. Windows PC players will pay $29.99 (around R250) to relive some of the scariest moments in FPS history, whilst Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers will be forking out $39.99 (about R335).

 

Some great gaming news to ‘ear: Mike Tyson’s return to the ring

Mike Tyson looks set to enter the ring again, only it’s within virtual wrestling ring, as the legendary ear-munching boxer will make an appearance in the upcoming WWE ‘13. The self-proclaimed “Baddest Man on the Planet” will only be available as an exclusive playable character for gamers in the US and Canada (sorry SA fans) who pre-order this title.

WWE ’13 will be climbing into the gaming ring at the end of October in the US on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii. Check out the teaser trailer posted below.

 

 

Saints Row: The Third’s Enter the Dominatrix expansion canned

THQ has axed the third expansion for the over-top-action title, Saints Row: The Third. This pack, dubbed Enter the Dominatrix, would have seen an alien warlord called Zinyak invading earth on a mission to plunder our planet’s natural resources and enslave its females.

However, gamers who were looking forward to blasting away alien invaders will be pleased to hear that all is not lost.

"When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise,” said Jason Rubin, THQ’s president. “I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that  game.”

So, instead of DLC, gamers will have to wait till somewhere in 2013 for “The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise.”

DLC to be made available for New Super Mario Bros 2

Along with the 3DS XL announcement, Nintendo had another surprise up its sleeve, as it revealed that the upcoming New Super Mario Bros 2 will also receive downloadable content (DLC) after its launch. The next iteration will apparently be all about the coins - so apparently Mario’s motivations are not solely centred around saving the princess, commercialisation occurs in the Mushroom Kingdom too.

In the game, Mario will have a myriad of ways of generating more coins, such as a gold suit which enables Mario to throw a gold fireball which transforms blocks into coins, a gold ring which turns enemies into gold and a gold block, which causes Mario to become a mini Midas of sorts.

The game will also sport a new rush Coin Rush mode, that will challenge players to complete three randomly selected courses back to back, while collecting as many coins as possible. The remaining time and position on the gold post at the end of the course will then be converted into coins. It is this mode that will receive extra levels by DLC. First though, you will have to pay Nintendo an undisclosed number of real ‘coins’ (ie cash) of your own.   

 

 

Okami HD coming to the PS3

For many PS2 players and game reviewers, Okami conjures up effusive praise and regret that the poetic and painterly game wasn’t experienced by more people.

It was announced this week though, that the sumi-e ink art style of the game will be lovingly sloshed with a fresh coat of HD paint, along with trophy support and Move support, and made available on the PlayStation Network in the next couple of months.

The game has players step into the paws of the Japanese sun goddess, Amaterasu, who has been contained in the body of a wolf. Players are tasked with restoring the world after it is rendered a ruined wasteland by a demon, using the Celestial Brush to paint brush strokes’ across the screen.

While the game can be played entirely using the traditional PS3 controller, players with the Move peripheral will alternatively be able to use the device as a brush, for an even more immersive experience, according to the PlayStation Blog.

If you prefer painterly, poetic games on the PS3, then probably, you will be saying yes please to the proposed price tag of $19 (R160), prolific alliteration aside.
