PlayStation Move(s) to motion-based beat
 
The big gaming news of the week is that Sony finally showcased their motion-based controller to lure gamers away from the Nintendo Wii. The wand-like PlayStation Move controller, which was announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, “delivers unmatched accuracy through its advanced motion sensors, including a three axis gyroscope, a three axis accelerometer and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a colour-changing sphere that is tracked by the PlayStation Eye camera.” It will be launched worldwide in late 2010, but details on pricing and availability for South Africa are still pending.
 
Xbox boxes away competition
 
Engadget reported that in the US for the month of February, Microsoft managed to push 422,000 of the Xbox 360 (according to the gaming industry tracker NPD), making the Xbox 360 the best selling console for that month, outselling the ever popular Nintendo Wii by 24 100 units and the resurgent PlayStation 3 by a whopping 61 900 units.
 
Nintendo not ready to consider new console
 
Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime was recently interviewed by Forbes and made some comments around Nintendo’s possible Wii successor. “When the software developer comes forward with an idea that can’t be executed on the current platform, that’s when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We’re not there yet, from a Wii perspective,” Fils-Aime stated.
 
There are numerous articles on the net suggesting that Nintendo are thinking about their next console, as they need high definition to better take on their rivals on the graphics front. But Fils-Aime responded in the following way: “So when people talk about high definition for the Wii console our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience. Therefore, we’re not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences.”
 
Jay-Z and Eminem on DJ Hero DLC
 
Owners of DJ Hero can look forward to some new DLC for the game that will see three new mixes becoming available, featuring rappers Jay-Z and Eminem. These tracks are Shake That by Eminem mixed with Show Me What You Got by Jay-Z, Without Me by Eminem mixed with Encore by Jay-Z as well as Can I Get A... by Jay-Z mixed with Lose Yourself by Eminem.
 
The Jay-Z vs. Eminem mix pack bundle will come out on 18 March for the Xbox 360, costing 640 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live marketplace, whilst PS3 players will have to wait until 25 March to get their hands on the bundle for $7.99 (about R60) via the PS Network.
