The gaming world has been waiting for a proper sequel to DICE's Battlefield 2 since 2005. And while other games in the series such as the Bad Company titles have done well for the franchise, what fans have really been waiting for is the elusive Battlefield 3.

 

Now Game Informer has revealed that they'll be publishing a world exclusive story on the upcoming game in its next issue - the first official details on the game to surface. 

 

In an interview with executive producer Patrick Bach, juicy titbits around the Frostbite 2 engine, a new animation system borrowed from EA Sports, and even more insane destructible carnage, were but a few of the topics. Unfortunately you'll have to purchase the international magazine to lay your eyes on the beautiful pages, but as the story breaks we'll be sure to pass on any and all Battlefield 3 related information.

 

The game is slated for a fall 2011 (spring for us) release and is coming to the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out the premiere teaser trailer for the game at the end of this article.

 

 

According to Gamespot, Sony is looking less to its lawyers and more to the consumers as far as motion based gaming is concerned. Since the release of Microsoft's Kinect last year, several people have developed alternative uses for the technology, from a robot to a mini-helicopter guidance system. Microsoft initially threatened legal action against these Kinect hacks, but quickly reversed on its position, allowing an open-source Kinect community to spring up.

 

Now it seems Sony wants in on the positive press, with a presentation at the upcoming 2011 Game Developers Conference entitled, “Update on PlayStation Move Development” looking promising. “We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs,” reads the description of the presentation.

 

The session is scheduled to take place on March 4th, hopefully opening up the Move to some tweaking. We're not sure how enticing Sony's system will be to Kinect hackers though, as holding a controller kinda takes the “magic” away from seeing stuff flying across a display.

 

 

 

An interesting new game trade-in deal has been announced by gaming retailer Gamestop, one that will undoubtedly benefit some of the frustrated COD: Black Ops players on the PlayStation 3. The deal states that gamers can trade-in their copy of Black Ops for a copy of the upcoming FPS Killzone 3, without losing a dime. Killzone is already arguably the most popular PlayStation 3 exclusive shooter franchise around, enjoying the same kind of fame Gears of War does on the Xbox 360.

 

It will be interesting to see how many gamers take advantage of this deal, the more there is, the more embarrassment is sure to follow for Treyarch and Activision. Unfortunately Gamestop doesn't currently have any branches operating in South Africa, but with a bit of luck perhaps a local retailer will offer something similar. Killzone 3 is releasing for the PS3 on the 25th of February.

 

 

 

According to Gamespot, Capcom has released a new mobile offering in its Devil May Cry franchise known as Devil May Cry 4 Refrain. The game has been released for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch, with players taking on the role of Nero with his Devil Bringer demonic arm. 

 

The game will consist of 10 levels and eight boss fights and will feature classic DMC gameplay. Players will be able to control Nero via a simple three-button control scheme or a virtual joystick option with five onscreen buttons.

 

The game is available now from the Apple App Store at an introductory price of only $1.99.
