God of War multiplayer?

Single player games are becoming rarer by the day, with most developers now offering distinctly different solo and multiplayer experiences in their games. One of the popular exceptions to this rule has always been the PlayStation exclusive God of War series.

Now though, according to Gamespot, Sony may just be looking into taking Kratos into the multiplayer realm as well. The hint comes from Sony Computer Entertainment America Santa Monica currently looking for a senior online programmer to “join the God of War team”. Desired skills include experience “designing and implementing systems and tools to support networking needs (such as in-game communication, client-server, matchmaking [and] leaderboards).”

The listing definitely raises suspicions of an online God of War mode, perhaps involving other members of the Greek pantheon?

The latest entry in the series, the PS3's God of War III, was slated to be the finale in the series, although it did leave the possibility of a sequel. And when you have successful PSP games and such a huge fanbase, a multiplayer God of War 4 may be just around the corner.

Spider-Man: Edge of Time announced

Activision and Marvel Entertainment today announced the latest game based on the popular Spider-Man comic series, entitled Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

Developed by Beenox studio, the same folks who brought us the impressive Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, it seems that the game is once again going to drop Spidey fans into a unique storyline. In the title players will have to take on the roles of both the classic Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 to correct a time-stream gone wrong and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the untimely death of Peter Parker.

The game will also feature new “cause-and-effect” gameplay in which players will be able to see the immediate (and sometimes unexpected) effects of their actions as one Spider-Man's actions changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man. The game is slated to release this fall (spring for us).

PlayStation One games coming to Xperia Play

Sony Ericsson's upcoming Xperia Play has been getting a lot of news lately, being the first ever PlayStation certified smartphone to enter the market.

Now in preparation of the launch, Sony has unleashed a number of PlayStation One games onto the Android Market, TechSpot reports. The five games available thus far are Syphon Filter, Destruction Derby, MediEvil, Jumping Fish and Cool Boarders 2, and the titles are available for $6.38 each. More games are expected to be released in the coming weeks, including Wild Arms and Rally Cross.

The Xperia Play will function like your standard smartphone when in portrait mode, but when in landscape mode a slide-out keyboard reveals a digital D-pad, dual analogue touch pads, shoulder buttons and the four classic PlayStation buttons. Sony Ericsson has yet to announce official pricing and release dates, but the inclusion of classics such as Syphon Filter and MediEvil makes us want to buy one just for the nostalgia factor.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Resident Evil fans rejoice! Capcom this week officially announced the newest title in the series, and it's coming to PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3.

The new game, entitled Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will see the player facing the nightmarish events in Raccoon City from a different perspective, this time as an Umbrella Security Services solider. The game will be a third-person, team-based shooter and will explore a reinterpretation of the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3.

According to the press release, “Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favorite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.”
