According to the Androidandme tech blog, Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphone that runs on Google’s Android 2.1 (Éclair) is about to get an OS update.

This update isn’t going to be to Android 2.2 (Froyo) though, as one would expect, but Samsung appears to have gone straight for Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) instead.

The Gingerbread ROM (Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread build) destined for the Galaxy S reportedly emanates directly from Samsung and boasts the Korean company’s TouchWiz 3 skin. It currently only works on the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 (European model, also utilised in SA) thus far, but developers may also port it for the US version in the near future.

Users of Samsung’s Galaxy S can view how the Android 2.3.2 build operates on their smartphones via the video posted below.

Samsung also unveiled its Galaxy S II smartphone during the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, also operating on Gingerbread.
