Google TV launching soon
By Hanleigh Daniels 6 October 2010 | Categories: newsGoogle has announced several of the content partners that will be supporting its Google TV web-based TV service and has also launched a new Google TV website.
The search giant together with Logitech, Intel and Sony, unveiled its set top box set and software package at its Google I/O developer conference back in May. This system will allow users to find and watching TV programming over the Internet on their TVs as well as provide them with access to traditional subscription services. (More below)
Some of these content providers include Turner Broadcasting, who will be bringing some of its popular news and entertainment websites to Google TV, including CNN, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.
NBC Universal is providing CNBC Real-Time, which is an application that allows users to track their favourite stocks as well as provide them with access to news feeds and financial news from CNBC directly on the TV.
TV series fans can look forward to HBO delivering a large selection of programming to Google TV with HBO GO. Subscribers will soon be able to access all of their favourite HBO series on-demand via an enhanced website for Google TV.
Additionally Amazon Video On Demand will offer access to over 75 000 titles for rental or purchase, while Netflix will allow users to instantly watch unlimited movies and TV shows by streaming them directly to the TV.
According to the company these services will launch together with Google TV this month in the US, but local release info isn’t available yet. Google TV will be available as a separate set top box that can be used with a current TV or in the standalone Sony Internet TV.
