Google releases latest Android usage data - June 2012

Gingerbread (Android 2.3 - 2.3.7) running smartphones still dominate the Android mobile OS landscape, slightly increasing its share of the Android user pie from 64.4% during May 2012 to 65% for June 2012. Taking a distant second place is Froyo (Android 2.2), which sees its stake dropping from 20.9% to 19.1%.
After surpassing the tablet-only Honeycomb (Android 3.0 - 3.2) last month, the latest version of Google’s mobile OS dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS, Android 4.0 - 4.0.4), managed to push its way passed Eclair (Android 2.1) to occupy a spot on the Android podium. ICS now operates on 7.1% of Android-running mobile devices, whilst Eclair decreased its 5.5% stake to 5.2% this month. Honeycomb saw its usage pie slice reduced from 3.3% to 2.7%.
The two most outdated versions of Android, namely Cupcake (Android 1.5) and Donut (Android 1.6), is now being used by less than 1% of Android users, notching up 0.3% and 0.6% of the Android user pie respectively.
In related news, LG Electronics recently unveiled a new user interface (UI) for its Android ICS powered mobile devices called Optimus UI 3.0, whilst the Google-owned Motorola Mobility shortened the list of devices that will be updated to Android ICS.
