Gran Turismo 5 may have been delayed time and again, but yesterday we finally received confirmation that the real driving simulator is on its way.

According to Jalopnik, Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the Gran Turismo series, said that the game is done and the discs are being stamped as we speak.

The announcement came after a question was levelled at Yamauchi at the SEMA motoring trade show in the United States.

Neither Polyphony Digital or Sony has yet announced a release date for the game though, but if Yamauchi is correct chances are the game should be shipping sometime before Christmas.

Previously we reported that Amazon had set different release dates for the game on its websites, some stretching into 2011. Sony has since responded saying that those dates are simply internal placeholders.

We definitely hope to see the game out before Christmas, whether it will happen or not is still a matter of speculation though. Either way, Gran Turismo 5 will be releasing sometime within the next few months exclusively to the PlayStation 3.
