HP has announced its two new sleekbooks, in both 14” and 15.6” variations, along with yet another Envy notebook offering, in the form of the Envy m4.  

Back in May, at its Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai, the company mostly hinted that we could expect to see its sleekbook offerings later in the year. At that time though, the company’s new Envy’s garnered the lion’s share of our attention.

 

Now however, it appears as though the sleekbooks are about to claim their place in the sun. For the uninitiated or downright confused, HP’s sleekbooks are essentially ultrabooks without a solid state drive.

 Is sleek, sexy?

The lightweight HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and 15 feature 14” and 15.6” diagonal high-definition (HD) displays respectively, along with up to a generous one  terabyte of storage for apps, movies, music, photos, documents and other content.

Additionally, the sleekbooks offer a full array of ports including HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, while the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 also includes a numeric keypad.

Interestingly enough, when it comes to processors, the sleekbooks do not share the same partners.  

Whereas the Pavilion Sleekbook 14 is powered by AMD accelerated processors, the Pavilion Sleekbook 15 opts for Intel’s processors to stir it to life. Each will accommodate up to 8 GB of memory.

Both, however, do boast TrueVision HD Webcams, Dolby Advanced Audio, while discrete graphics from Nvidia will apparently be an option. The new offerings will further be available in ‘sparkling black’ and ‘ruby red.’

Can an Envy get jealous?

Admittedly, HP’s new announcement doesn’t neglect its Envy range entirely. Forestalling sibling rivalry, or worse yet, causing its Envy range to turn an unintended shade of green, the company duly trotted out yet another Envy notebook for notebook lovers to drool over.

The m4 offers a 14” diagonal HD display, along with third generation (Ivy Bridge) Intel Core processors, the choice between up to a 1 TB hard drive or a SSD, and 8 GB of memory.  

According to Engadget, the screen resolution will be an ‘ok but sufficient’ 1366 x 768, at least in the US. Apparently though, other, as yet undisclosed display resolutions will be available in other countries. Somewhat peculiarly though, a backlit keyboard is an option, though not standard.

As expected, Beats Audio is onboard, no doubt to ‘play nice’ with the integrated subwoofer and two speakers.

Like the sleekbooks, the notebook does offer a TrueVision HD Webcam, and selected models will further boast Intel WiDi (wireless display), which enables users to wirelessly stream content on their notebook to their HD TV.
