HP updates its notebook line-up
By Staff Writer 9 May 2011 | Categories: newsHP has expanded its notebook PC line-up with new additions in the form of the ProBook m-series, EliteBook p-series models, HP Mini 210, Pavilion dv4 as well as ENVY 14. The company also unveiled some accessories to accompany these new notebooks.
ProBook m-series
The first of the new enterprise targeting notebooks is the ProBook 5330m, measuring in at less than 1" thick, and featuring a dual-tone colour scheme, brushed aluminum chassis and backlit keyboard. It is the company’s first business notebook to offer Beats Audio. This was developed by HP along with hip hop producer dr. Dre and allows for a fuller, more detailed sound experience.
HP’s new ProBook is powered by the latest second-generation Intel Core i5 and i3 dual-core processors and includes the HP Fingerprint Sensor for enhanced hardware-based data security.
New EliteBook notebooks
The new HP EliteBook 2560p boasts a 12.5" diagonal high-definition (HD) display, high-performance Intel processor and, according to HP, it is the only notebook in the industry with an integrated optical drive in this form factor. It is the American manufacturer’s smallest and lightest EliteBook, weighing in at only 1.7 kg.
Joining the new EliteBook 2560p is the 2760p Tablet PC (the old kind, not the new ones) sporting a thin, clamshell design with a lightweight 12.5" diagonal touch-enabled LED-backlit HD display. This display allows users to employ a pen as well as touch controls to access its functionality, while it also boasts an integrated optical drive for added on-the-go convenience.
Both EliteBook models offer second-generation Intel Core i7 or i5 dual- core processors, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, 7200 RPM HDDs as well as solid-state drives (SSDs) configurations.
HP Mini 210 – stylish, on-the-go computing
Beats Audio also comes to the new HP Mini 210 that weighs around 1.36 kg and measures less than 25 mm thin. According to the company, the stylish HP Mini 210 will deliver up to 9.5 hours of battery life and is available in five colours, namely sweet purple, charcoal, crimson red, luminous rose and ocean drive.
The Mini 210 also features HP QuickWeb 3.0. QuickWeb 3.0 includes a customisable widget dashboard and syncs to Windows bookmarks. Users can chat with friends on Skype, update Facebook posts or tweets, and view their social calendars all from one central location.
Prices for the HP Mini 210 start at R3499 and it is expected to be locally available as of June this year in three colours, namely charcoal, luminous rose and ocean drive.
HP Pavilion models
An enhanced web experience might be on offer on the Mini 210, but with the HP Pavilion dv4 that boasts a 14" diagonal HD LED BrightView screen, the company has improved HP CoolSense technology, which assist in keeping the notebooks cool and now includes a simplified user interface of on, off and auto.
Weighing about 2.27 kg, the dv4 comes in two HP Imprint colours, namely espresso black and pacific blue. The HP Pavilion dv4 pricing starts at R8999 and it is expected to be available in June, whilst pricing for the HP Pavilion dv6 (also available by June) kicks off at R8999 and estimated retail prices for the HP Pavilion dv7 starts at R11 999.
HP ENVY 14
The HP ENVY 14 notebook PC is powered by new second-generation Intel Core processors, and boasts USB 3.0 and a new HP imagepad. The latter uses image sensor technology for advanced gesture support and more fluid control.
This premium machine also boasts a precision-etched metal alloy case with a 14.5" diagonal, HD BrightView Infinity LED display and Beats Audio. Pricing for the HP ENVY 14 starts at R 11 999 and it will become available next month, whilst the estimated retail pricing for the HP ENVY 17 begins at R19 999 which also will be available during June.
Docking and display solutions
Besides the availability of new software on its Pavilion notebook range, the company also unveiled its new HP 2560p Docking Station. It offers four USB ports as well as eSATA, DisplayPort and VGA ports for added connectivity to peripherals and compatibility with an array of video devices.
HP’s slimmest business display to date, the HP Elite L2201x easily connects to a notebook with a single DisplayPort connector and features a wafer-thin display panel measuring less than 0.4" thick and 21.5" diagonally.
Besides the notebooks and accompanying peripherals, HP also launched DataPass, a pre-paid 3G mobile broadband service (available only in the US) across its business notebook line-up. It enables users to purchase wireless broadband data using major mobile carriers in the US, without being tied down by contracts, hotspots and set-up fees.
Enhanced HP SimplePass for Pavilion models
Protecting personal information and simplifying password management is made more convenient with HP SimplePass with One Time Password, which is now available on the Pavilion dm4, dv6 metal and dv7 metal notebook PCs.
HP SimplePass helps prevent phishing fraud by providing unique, one-time passwords that are linked to each individual user’s fingerprint. These one-time passwords, generated every 60 seconds, grant more secure access to websites that store financial information.
