HTC reveals the Desire X smartphone
By Hanleigh Daniels 31 August 2012 | Categories: newsTaiwanese smartphone and tablet maker HTC has unveiled its new Desire X smartphone at the IFA 2012 consumer electronics show, currently underway in Berlin. This device measures in at 118.5 x 62.3 x 9.3 mm and weighs 114 g.
It is powered by a snappy 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and runs on Google’s Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with HTC’s Sense 4.0a skin on top of it. Users have access to around 4 GB of internal storage, but can expand upon this (by up to 32 GB) via the device’s microSD memory card slot. In addition, you will also get a useful 25 GB of free online cloud-based storage from Dropbox.
This smartphone also boasts a 4" (480 x 800; 233 ppi pixel density) Super LCD display, 768 MB RAM, a significant 1650 mAh battery, Wi-Fi 802.11 n, and Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX technology enabled. The latter enables a higher quality of Bluetooth Stereo audio, when you listen to music wirelessly over your Bluetooth-enabled speakers or headset.
Another feature that should boost the overall audio experience is integrated Beats Audio technology, which HTC asserts will deliver deep bass and a richer, more powerful speaker sound.
HTC stated that its Desire X will be available in selected markets across EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) as well as Asia Pacific as of September 2012.
“HTC Desire X is an extension of your social life,” said Jason Mackenzie, president of global sales and marketing for HTC Corporation. “If you’re looking to enjoy and share high quality multimedia, wherever you are, this is the phone for you. It not only looks and sounds great, but also provides a super-fast, highly personal mobile experience at a great price.”
In related news, HTC is reportedly bringing out three devices powered by Microsoft’s latest smartphone platform, Windows Phone 8, later this year. This Redmond-powered trio is the entry-level Rio, mid-range Accord, and range-topping Zenith.
