PC Gamers who depend on Steam for their daily dose of online gaming mayhem will be left in the dark for a few hours later today.

Valve announced last week that the Steam service will be down for approximately four hours on Monday, the 11th of October. The services affected will include in-game matchmaking, in-game lobbies, all downloads and purchases from Steam or the Steam Store and access to the Steam community, as reported by Kotaku. 
 
In other words basically all Steam services, including all those needed for mowing down your buddies online, will be down come later today.
 
The only Steam function that won't be affected by the downtime will be playing single player games that don't require online authentication.
 
The update is scheduled to take place between 4 am and 8 am PST (Pacific Standard Time), meaning gamers in the states aren't likely to see too much of a disturbance. South Africans however are in for a quiet afternoon as the update is taking place between 4 pm and 8 pm for us stuck in GMT+2.
