IT security firm Kaspersky Lab has announced the release of Kaspersky Mobile Security 9, which is an updated version of the company’s smartphone security software.

This latest version now offers support for Google’s Android mobile operating system (OS) as well as devices running on RIM’s BlackBerry OS platform.

BlackBerry OS and Android join Symbian and Windows Mobile that are already supported within the Kaspersky Mobile Security.

Kaspersky Mobile Security 9 protects a user’s smartphone from threats such as malware and spam, plus keeps personal data secure. That’s not all since the software has also been designed to protect users by blocking unwanted calls; hiding the contact info of chosen contacts; hiding their personal files and locating their device if it goes missing. Mobile users running a version of Symbian or Windows Mobile OS can also password protect and encrypt their files using a strong encryption algorithm.

Parents who install the software on their kid’s (Symbian- and Windows Mobile-powered) smartphones, will be able to employ the parental control module to restrict who their children can call and also who calls them, while even being able to pin-point their kid’s location.

“Kaspersky Mobile Security 9 is more than just an antivirus program for your mobile phone – it’s a comprehensive mobile security suite. No matter what type of malware attacks your phone, or whether it is lost, stolen or used by others without your consent, Kaspersky Lab’s solution has got it covered, so your valuable information remains intact and your privacy guarded,” stated Sergey Nevstruyev, vice president of Mobile Solutions at Kaspersky Lab.

Pricing for this software starts at around R216.
