Kaspersky Lab launched its latest version of Mobile Security, version 8.0, at ITWeb`s IT Security Summit today, held at Vodaworld, Midrand.

Mobile Security 8.0 is designed to protect smartphones from all types of IT threats, such as the growing threat of malware attacks. The package includes a firewall and antivirus scanner with regular security updates.

Victor Dronov, Product Manager for Kaspersky Lab’s Mobile Solutions Unit, believes that mobile protection was the next logical step for Kaskersky in providing a total solution to users. Dornov points out that, “opposite to PCs there is not only cyber threats for smartphones… there is also the chance that your information can get into the wrong hands… from lost or stolen devices”.

Mobile Security 8.0 addresses these data security needs by including a number of protection features for lost or stolen devices. Users can remotely block or wipe their device’s memory, locate a missing device using GPS, and track number and SIM card changes on the device.

Mobile Security 8.0 is available for download online, retailing for just under $30.
