Kingston unveils 256 GB HyperX 3.0 flash drive
By Hanleigh Daniels 21 November 2011 | Categories: newsKingston Technology has launched its Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 (promo video posted below), featuring the fastest speeds and largest capacities that Kingston has to offer on a memory stick.
Storage for Africa
The DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 is available in 64 GB and 128 GB versions. But first prize must certainly go to the whopping 256 GB unit, which has enough storage space for about ten Blu-ray Discs (25 GB each), 54 DVDs (4.7 GB info per DVD), 48 640 MP3s (averaging 4 MB per MP3) or 13 473 684 Microsoft Word file pages.
Covers the need for speed
With high-speed, eight-channel architecture, the Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 provides USB 3.0 data transfer rates of up to 225 MB/s read and 135 MB/s write, when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. This is a lot quicker than the 100 MB/s reading speed and 70 MB/s writing speed found on Kingston's Superspeed capable DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 flash drive.
The fast write speeds allow users to work on large files or applications directly from the USB 3.0 drive, without experiencing any performance lag. This way users can save time associated with opening, editing and copying large files and applications between devices.
Can role with the punches
Kingston’s DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 measures 74.99 x 23.29 x 15.9 mm and its design incorporates a metal and rubberised casing with a reinforced key ring hole, enabling to take the odd knocks and drops. It is also backed by a five-year warranty, 24/7 tech support and proven Kingston reliability. Pricing starts at R1545 for the 64 GB model and climbs steeply to R6799 for the top-of-the-range 256 GB version.
“Enthusiasts have long known HyperX as the memory of choice for overclockers and power users who need the most performance from system memory,” explained Grant Rau, business development manager at Kingston Technology South Africa.
“The new DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 USB Flash drive continues this tradition. With the fastest speeds and largest capacity, this storage device is the perfect solution for users who require high performance whilst carrying their digital library,” he continued.
