EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa game was launched today at a media event held at SAFA House in Johannesburg.
 
From what we've seen at the launch the game definitely looks better than FIFA 10, with you being able to take your chosen nation from the qualifying stages of the competition all the way to the final. You can select any of the 199 teams that made it to the qualifiers for the tournament. You’ll also be able to play the first ever 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa online tournament against real life opponents from around the globe.
 
The game sports improvements in terms of graphics as well as gameplay over previous FIFA titles. It also presents a very realistic atmosphere, setting the mood with scenes that we’re going to be seeing in just over 40 days from now. All of the ten officially licensed stadiums are featured in the game and all have been recreated in realistic detail from their actual blueprints. You’ll hear vuvuzelas in the background as the action on the pitch continues, with visuals of the coach of your chosen nation nervously shouting instructions from the confetti strewn sideline popping up during tense moments. Newcomers to the FIFA range of soccer games will find it really easy to get straight into the thick of the action, thanks to the new two-button control system (shoot and pass), but FIFA regulars can switch to the controls that they’ve grown accustomed to over the years, which allows for a more immersive gaming experience.    
 
The soundtrack features a number of cosmopolitan music artists from across the globe, most notably SA’s own Gang of Instrumentals, who performed their featured track Oh Yeah at the game's launch. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa made our list of games to watch out for during Q2 as we suspect that it’s going to be huge and we aren’t alone in that assessment. Pino Di Benedetto, marketing manager at EA South Africa, said that they expect this game to be the biggest selling title of the year. The game will be available as of next week at major retailers including CNA, Musica and Dion Wired for the PlayStation 3 (R499), Xbox 360 (R499), Nintendo Wii (R399) and PSP (R399).
