Lenovo to release gaming console
By Tom Manners 30 August 2010 | Categories: newsReports are surfacing that computer manufacturer Lenovo intends to make its own entry into the lucrative console gaming market.
According to CNET, the company has developed a gaming console known as the eBox which will be release in China by the end of the year.
At present very little is known regarding the console’s specifications other than the fact that it will operate using a motion control user interface.
According to The Escape Artist Jack Luo, new president of Beijing eedoo, a spin-off company Lenovo created to work on the eBox, expects the console to be a success, but notes that it isn’t particularly advanced.
"Our product is designed for family entertainment," Luo says. "eBox may not have exquisite game graphics, or extensive violence, but it can inspire family members to get off the couch and get some exercise."
This does not come as much of a surprise, numerous technology companies have attempted, both successfully and unsuccessfully, in the past to bring gaming consoles to market. Most recently both Sony and Microsoft have opted to release motion control console interfaces aimed at the casual gamer after witnessing the success of Nintendo’s Wii console.
